Rethymnon is a modern city, and as such is experiencing the same
type of traffic problems as any other bustling commercial centre.
In high season and on market day (Thursday) town is particularly
busy with traffic. Availability of on-street parking spaces is
extremely limited at any time of the year. Furthermore, during
the summer the 'old-town' is a pedestrian zone. It is
therefore recommended that visitors to Rethymnon park their cars in
one of the municipal car parks; by the municipal park, the marina,
the Venetian harbour or near the bus station. Drivers should also be aware
that a one-way system is in operation in central Rethymnon.
