Carnival in Rethymnon
During the three week period leading up to the start of Lent, known in Greek as A-po-kri-es, several events are organised. These include treasure hunts for children and adults and fancy dress parties hosted by the different carnival teams. The festivities culminate with a grand parade through the main streets of Rethymnon on the Sunday before Clean Monday.
The theme of this year's carnival is the 'Odyssey of the Greeks'.
Everyone is invited to participate.
Below is a list of events for 2012 that we know of at the moment,
but have not necessarily been officially confirmed yet. Updates will be made when we get more info.
04-05/02/2012 - Saturday/ Sunday

15th Treasure Hunt for the 'kids', organised by the 'Alter Ego team
11-12/02/2012 - Saturday/ Sunday
23rd Treasure Hunt
The Alter Ego team are organising this year's treasure hunt.
48 teams will be taking part.
16/02/2012 - Thursday
Old Town, Rethymnon
Tsiknopempti - Party in the Old Town, probably with several sound systems dotted around the area.
25/02/2012 - Saturday
Centre of Rethymnon
Evening Parade - starts at around 21.00hrs from the Elina Hotel to the Town Hall.
26/02/2012 - Sunday
Centre of Rethymnon
Grand Parade - starts around 2pm
Old Town Beach
